AIT's TSA-certification, Cargo Screening Facility Program increases Global Supply Chain Security, Efficiency
Effective June 30, 2021, the U.S. government requires the air transportation industry to screen, at the piece level, 100 percent of cargo moved via passenger, freighter and charter aircraft prior to loading.

The TSA requires any certified cargo screening facility, including AIT’s facilities in Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco, carry out a TSA-approved security program and adhere to strict chain of custody requirements—from screening through placement on aircraft.
CCSP/CCSF must comply with safeguarding measures created by TSA’s security program, ensure there is no corruption of the cargo throughout the chain of custody, permit onsite validations and periodic inspections, and screen cargo as individual items and not by palletized items.
Any facility that tenders cargo directly to an air carrier or indirect air carrier may apply for the program. This includes:
- Manufacturers
- Warehouses
- Distribution centers
- Third-party logistics providers
- Indirect air carriers
- Airport cargo handlers
- Independent cargo screening facilities
TSA principal security inspectors manage the application process and approval of certified cargo screening facilities certification, while more than 500 cargo inspectors ensure that airlines and CCSFs meet their standards of screening 100 percent of cargo on all flights originating in the United States.
