Transportation management leader recommits to sustainability with continued EPA partnership

ITASCA, ILLINOIS (September 23, 2019) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently approved AIT Worldwide Logistics’ 2018 emissions reporting, qualifying the global logistics industry leader for its 12th year as a SmartWay Transport Partner.

“One of AIT’s core values is ethical conduct, which we believe includes safeguarding not only our teammates, customers and communities, but also the health of the planet,” said Greg Weigel, AIT’s Executive Vice President, Global Operations. “That’s why we’re committed to our standing as a SmartWay Transport Partner, leading the transportation and logistics industry by establishing incentives for fuel efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.”

Launched in 2004, SmartWay is a voluntary, public-private program that aims to: provide a system for tracking and sharing fuel use and freight emissions information; assist organizations in identifying and selecting more energy- and cost-efficient options; support global energy security; offset environmental impacts; and reduce freight transportation-related emissions by accelerating the use of advanced fuel-saving technologies.

More than 3,700 organizations support the SmartWay program, including major transportation industry associations, environmental groups, state and local governments, international agencies, and the corporate community.

SmartWay Transport Partner tools measure progress toward fewer emissions and cleaner air. Each year, program partners submit performance to qualify for continued partnership.

SmartWay implements its goal by analyzing and researching freight impacts, engaging with experts, anticipating and responding to trends, developing strategic resources and communication strategies, and acting as a global model. In addition to domestic support, SmartWay also collaborates internationally with partners in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
