AIT Worldwide Logistics Expands to Mexico with New Office in Hermosillo

The 48th facility in the company’s global network is ideally positioned to serve customers with operations in the region’s manufacturing center.

ITASCA, ILLINOIS – AIT Worldwide Logistics is proud to announce the opening of its first office in Mexico on Monday, June 22. Located in the northwestern city of Hermosillo, the new AIT facility is poised to make a significant contribution to company’s ongoing global expansion.

According to AIT management, expanding to Mexico is an important step in the evolution of the full scope of worldwide services offered by the company. In addition to enhancing the products utilized by current global accounts, AIT is now an increasingly logical option for companies based in Mexico that are looking for a global supply chain partner with local presence and expertise.

AIT also participates in Mexico’s IMMEX program. The initiative allows AIT customers to defer import taxes, value-added taxes and/or duties for certain incoming shipments until those goods have been put to use in the production or repair of final products intended for export. Businesses that operate maquiladoras – factories in Mexico operating under IMMEX guidelines – can partner with AIT to take full advantage of preferential tariff programs. This valuable supply chain benefit will help many AIT customers to streamline and economize their procurement strategies.

AIT Executive Vice President Keith Tholan said, “Establishing AIT-Hermosillo is an important strategic step in our global plans for 2015 and this expansion into Mexico is already supporting new growth opportunities for our customer base.”

Hermosillo, the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora, is the region’s primary manufacturing center. AIT offers special services for the largest sectors of the area’s economy including automotive, life science, information technology and electronics.

AIT-Hermosillo is led by Station Manager Jose Luis Gomez who has ten years of experience overseeing supply chain operations in Mexico. He is International Air Transport Association (IATA)-trained to handle Dangerous Goods shipments and he is also a Certified Supply Chain Professional with APICS, a professional association for supply chain and operations managers.

The 48th office in AIT’s global network will also work closely with the company’s Laredo, Texas-based U.S. Customs broker to efficiently execute cross-border shipments. The new facility is located in the Hermosillo Industrial Park Cluster of Tier 1 vendors near Ford Motor Company’s Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly Plant, just 10 kilometers south of downtown with convenient highway access to nearby General Ignacio Pesqueira García International Airport.
