General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) standardizes data protection law across the European Union (EU) and imposes strict new rules on controlling and processing personally identifiable information (PII). The GDPR replaces the 1995 EU Data Protection Directive effective May 25, 2018.

GDPR applies to all organizations holding and processing EU residents’ personal data, regardless of geographic location. Likewise, organizations offering goods or services to EU residents must comply with GDPR requirements. The GDPR provides EU residents with several new rights, including the right to be informed about collection of their data, the right to restrict processing of their data and the right to have their data erased.
