Why AIT is a SmartWay Logistics Company Partner
At AIT Worldwide Logistics, we’re dedicated to conducting ourselves ethically. That includes safeguarding not only our teammates, customers and communities, but also the health of the planet.
Transportation currently accounts for about 29 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and 14 percent of emissions globally. With those statistics in mind, AIT committed to leading the transportation and logistics industry by establishing incentives for fuel efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
Read on to learn how our status as a certified SmartWay logistics company factors into our Core Values.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency launched SmartWay, a voluntary, public-private program in 2004.
With support from major transportation industry associations, environmental groups, state and local governments, international agencies, and the corporate community, the SmartWay program has several aims, including to:
- Provide a system for tracking and sharing fuel use and freight emissions information
- Help organizations identify and select more energy- and cost-efficient options
- Support global energy security
- Offset environmental impacts
Reduce freight transportation-related emissions by accelerating the use of advanced fuel-saving technologies
SmartWay implements its goals to lower freight carbon footprints by analyzing and researching freight impacts, engaging with experts, anticipating and responding to trends, developing strategic resources and communication strategies, and acting as a global model. In addition to domestic support, SmartWay also collaborates internationally with partners in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
There are three core components of the SmartWay Program: the SmartWay brand, SmartWay Global Collaboration and the Smart Way Transport Partnership, of which AIT is a member. Learn more at epa.gov/smartway.
The SmartWay Transport Partnership is a domestic and international freight and supply chain program that manages data for more than 3,500 partners across all domestic shipping modes in both the United States and Canada.
Under this program, freight shippers, carriers and SmartWay logistics companies work together with the EPA to measure, benchmark and improve logistics operations in order to reduce their environmental footprint.
Working with a transportation and logistics leader partnered with SmartWay delivers several advantages. AIT customers, for examples, can:
- Add sustainable options to their supply chain
- Shrink their carbon footprint via reduced emissions
- Share their dedication to environmental responsibility with their own client base
Promote a sustainable supply chain
