AIT Designs Cold Chain Packaging Solution for Leading Pharmaceutical Provider

Published on: Aug 31, 2011

The Challenge:

One of the nation’s leading pharmaceutical services providers was currently allowing its customers to handle the pack-out for all of their cold chain returns for overages or misdeliveries.

Improper packaging solutions and multiple service failures involving products ranging from flu vaccines to topical creams resulted in financial losses of a staggering $1.5 million last year.

Casting doubt on the effectiveness of their cold chain distribution process and the bottom line of their business, the need for accurate temperature control became critical for the customer.

The business challenge presented to AIT involved designing and introducing a controlled and uninterrupted reverse cold chain packaging solution that maintained a temperature range between 2 and 8°C throughout the lifecycle of each shipment.

The Solution:

Through the combined efforts of AIT’s Louisville, Philadelphia, Chicago and Dallas stations, the team demonstrated the technical and highly specialized ability to analyze, measure, control, document and validate the customer’s cold chain processes.

Applying their extensive and proven knowledge, AIT was able to design an insulated packaging solution utilizing its reliable LDC network and the use of thermal credo cubes, phase change containers that are specifically validated to maintain strict temperature ranges and tolerances for up to 168 hours.

In addition to the easy-to-manage system, AIT also built the customer a fail-safe backup plan for unforeseen problems in transit, ensuring the safety, integrity and quality of commodities from point of collection to final destination.

The Result:

Because AIT demonstrated a clear understanding of the customer’s most challenging cold chain requirements and worked together to provide a cost-saving solution that other industry competitors couldn’t provide, the customer entrusted AIT with their business.
