Thousands of Books Given Away at Annual Event in Omaha, Nebraska
Branch Manager Terry McMullen and the AIT-Omaha staff pitched in to present Books Are Treat, a community book giveaway. AIT was a primary partner at the fourth annual event along with AmeriCorps, Lutheran Family Services, Metro Transit, Metropolitan Community College and Old Market Merchants Association.
On the Sunday before Halloween, a city bus filled with 10,000 brand new books (including Highlights magazines and puzzle books) arrived in Omaha's historic Old Market neighborhood. In addition to filling their buckets with candy by local merchants during the annual trick-or-treat event, kids were invited to board the bus, browse the mobile library and take home up to three books for free.
"While AIT Worldwide Logistics and the other partners sponsor many book giveaways throughout the year, over 40,000 books and reading items are distributed during this single Halloween event," said McMullen. "Hundreds of families were positively impacted. The kids are all dressed up for trick-or-treating, gathering candy and other items around the Old Market. There is no better gift than a book and some moments are just priceless - particularly seeing the wonder and joy of the children selecting their own titles."
Books Are Treat is part of AIT Cares - an initiative celebrating co-worker efforts to give back to the communities where we live and work.
