New Omaha, Nebraska Location Bolsters AIT's Global Network
Vast network, state-of-the-art technology, robust buying power and experienced, enthusiastic co-workers motivate the new independent owners to join AIT
ITASCA, ILLINOIS (July 29, 2013) – The newest location in AIT Worldwide Logistics’ rapidly expanding global network opens today in Omaha, Nebraska. The locally owned and operated facility is AIT’s 41st office and serves one of the top 10 largest cities in the midwestern United States.
Boasting a workforce of two dozen global supply chain experts, the new AIT office is a General Purpose Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) warehouse operation for the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. The location is also a full service third-party logistics (3PL) operation, a U.S. bonded facility and a Customs Examination Site (CES). In addition to the complete range of air, sea and ground distribution options, global on-board courier operations have long been a specialty. With their advanced development of trade show and convention material handling solutions, the office has also earned a reputation for special services expertise in a city that has become a leading Midwest convention destination.
The site is independently co-owned by Terry and Lori McMullen, a husband and wife team who went into business with each other 22 years ago. Together, the McMullens have combined to amass nearly 60 years working in the logistics industry. Mr. McMullen began his career as a driver and has devoted more than three decades working in operations, sales and management.
Meanwhile, Mrs. McMullen’s strengths lie in the financial aspects of the business. Her diligent efforts have cast a solid financial foundation which, accordingly to Mr. McMullen, has helped their organization to flourish. “Thanks to Lori’s leadership, we have high marks with credit agencies and we have been identified many times as one of the best companies to do business with,” Mr. McMullen adds. He also notes Mrs. McMullen’s work with vendors and suppliers as well as her management of most Human Resources functions, saying, “She has built a company of integrity that carries great respect.”
Mr. McMullen identifies engaged employees as the office’s greatest asset, noting that the team represents a wide range of transportation management backgrounds and draws upon a deep well of experience to excel in their roles. He explains, “We believe that engaged co-workers will further engage our customers, strengthening those relationships and ultimately helping the business to grow and prosper.” He also cites the culture of consultation amongst the staff who consistently take the time to educate customers about the more intricate aspects of global trade.
Commenting on the decision to become an AIT location, Mr. McMullen says, “The fundamental reasons for an independent owner to become part of a large global organization are the people, the network, the connectivity and the buying power. With AIT, these pieces join together perfectly and allow us to present affordable solutions with exceptional supply chain visibility to our customers.”
When the McMullens were researching to select a global partner for the next generation of their business, they came to believe that AIT’s single greatest strength was the company’s co-workers. Mr. McMullen remarks, “While going through the process of performing our due diligence, the most impressive stories we heard were about the people at AIT and how there was a collective enthusiasm both in the field and at the corporate headquarters.”
The sentiments expressed by Mr. McMullen are echoed by Vaughn Moore, President and CEO of AIT Worldwide Logistics, who says, “Once we decided to move forward with expansion into the Omaha market, it became apparent very quickly that Terry, Lori and their co-workers would feel right at home in our organization. The Omaha team exudes professionalism, personal integrity and excellence; we are delighted to welcome them all into the AIT family.”
Commenting on the benefits of the new facility, AIT’s Executive Vice President of Global Development, Ray Fennelly, adds, “This strong presence in Omaha allows us to fully leverage our comprehensive slate of transportation management solutions, competitive pricing and best-in-class service for new and existing customers in the region. We are certain Terry, Lori and the Omaha team will be key contributors to AIT’s accelerating growth in the global transportation arena.”
Located just minutes from Eppley Airfield and Omaha’s central business district, the 41st office in AIT Worldwide Logistics’ network is a 250,000 square foot facility on a 17 acre site providing complete global supply chain services to the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area as well as the surrounding region:
