Co-workers Step It Up Across the Network
In recent years, AIT Worldwide Logistics has continually increased its focus on enhancing health and group benefits with an emphasis on wellness and prevention. For 2013, the trend continues with the Human Resources department announcing the return of a program that was an employee favorite last year: the 10,000 Steps Challenge.
10,000 Steps invites co-workers to enjoy the benefits of a more active lifestyle by setting a goal to take at least 10,000 steps (or an equivalent amount of physical activity) every day for a period of ten weeks beginning June 17. Co-workers are encouraged to form teams of three to ten members whose steps will be compiled into a weekly average. Teams will compete against each other and when the ten week period ends on August 25, the team with the highest average steps will be awarded the grand prize - a full day of paid time off for every participating member. Gift cards will also be given away each week to one individual in a weekly random drawing. Any participant who averages at least 7,500 steps in a week and submits their steps on time is eligible for the weekly giveaway.
Last year, nearly 300 AIT co-workers joined together to form 38 teams and the winning team recorded a commendable final average of 20,844 steps per day. According to AIT’s Human Resources Benefits Coordinator, there is an extra incentive to participate this year, "There was a high level of participation in the 2012 walking challenge and we expect the program to be even more popular this year. HR is finalizing the new 2013 Wellness Program which will be announced soon and tied to a broader range of wellness activities (including the walking challenge), so we are expecting even greater participation than before."
