AIT Worldwide Logistics' New Houston Location Opens
Veteran staff of logistics professionals poised to provide critical supply chain solutions for thriving energy industry
ITASCA, ILLINOIS (August 5, 2013) – Today, AIT Worldwide Logistics opens its new facility in Houston, Texas, further strengthening the company’s global network and solidifying a renewed presence in a city known worldwide as an oil and energy center.
The office is headed by recently hired AIT-Houston City Director Mike Wilson, a 25 year transportation industry veteran possessing a deep well of Mexican and Central American supply chain knowledge. He is joined by a staff adding another 50 years of collective expertise in a variety of areas including expedited ground services and out of gauge shipping.
“AIT’s 33 year history is the result of healthy roots at the core of an organization that is so effective when it comes to vigorously generating fresh growth in new markets,” says Wilson. “As the business at our location expands, we will feed those roots and make a significant contribution to the company’s sustainability.”
Wilson remarked that the transportation industry is expected to flourish in the Houston market due to a number of factors. “The energy sector is continuing to develop with wind power coming into greater prevalence along with the overwhelming volume of activity in domestic and offshore fossil fuel production. Both the Port of Houston and the George Bush Intercontinental Airport have a robust capacity for heavy, out of gauge product movement which is particularly essential when serving the supply chain needs of energy companies.”
“With the widening of the Panama Canal nearing completion, the Port of Houston is ramping up to handle a much larger volume of containers debarking for local and interstate destinations,” he added. “Many products going to or from San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi and Laredo flow through Houston, plus we have ease of access to the nearby Altamira and Tampico ocean ports on Mexico’s east coast.”
As AIT’s operations continue to expand in the region, Wilson says new opportunities will present themselves in western hemisphere energy hot spots including Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela. “We are also targeting global business in Middle Eastern, African and Asian markets,” he noted.
“I’m very excited about Mike becoming a member of the AIT family,” commented Vaughn Moore, President and CEO of AIT Worldwide Logistics. “I’ve followed his career for many years and he’s done great things in our industry, especially in Houston. One of Mike’s strengths is team building and I’m confident the group he assembles will thrive under his leadership.”
AIT-Houston is a two-story, 18,500 square foot facility located across the street from the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. It is also a short drive from the terminals at the Port of Houston, one of world’s 15 busiest ports:
