AIT-Boston Delivers Books for Hands Across the Sea Charity

The AIT-Boston team continued their support for the Hands Across the Sea charity in 2014 by providing ground transportation for 30,000 books that were destined for islands in the Eastern Caribbean. The reading materials were distributed to children in communities where limited resources make it difficult to buy books for students.

"We could never have gotten great new books to 58,000 Caribbean children without the amazing, generous help of AIT Worldwide Logistics," said Harriet Linskey, Executive Director of Hands Across the Sea. "AIT-Boston's team has been truly philanthropic 'Logistics Angels' for us from day one. With AIT's help we've given kids in the Caribbean access to books and lending libraries."

This year, the organization also sent additional literacy resources including support materials for two special education schools. "It's an exciting week when the boxes of books begin to arrive in the islands!" exclaimed Tom Linskey, Co-founder and Marketing Director. "Everyone at AIT have made this miracle possible."

About Hands Across the Sea

Hands Across the Sea was co-founded in 2007 by Harriet and Tom ("T.L.") Linskey to promote children's literacy and assist schools and libraries in Caribbean communities. Hands works directly with school principals, teachers, learning-support advisors, community leaders, local NGOs and U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers affiliated with Caribbean schools to find out what books and classroom materials students (from pre-school to high school) need to improve learning and literacy - and then they get those books and materials to them. Their Caribbean Literacy and School Support (CLASS) program has assisted 291 schools, libraries, reading programs and youth centers in the Eastern Caribbean, touching the lives of over 58,000 children in the region.

Hands Across the Sea is part of AIT Cares - an initiative celebrating co-worker efforts to give back to the communities where we live and work.

AIT has a robust global logistics network, with more than 50 offices worldwide.
