Miami gateway builds momentum throughout AIT network
Since AIT's Miami gateway opened on June 22, 2009, the station has played a multi-faceted role in supporting AIT's global network of offices and partners.
As the critical connecting point between North America, Europe and Asia to Latin America and the Caribbean, Miami is a strategic supply chain center for global trade and commerce.
Building on the global resources of the AIT network, the gateway functions as a consolidation and distribution point for air and ocean cargo and in-transit bonded shipments traveling between continents.
Because of its consolidation program, the team has negotiated and secured price-competitive booking rates and commitments with airlines, which has increased market presence and buying power in the region.
Stations and partners across the entire AIT community are given a local advantage through promotions in various trade lanes, access to the best available rates in the market and guaranteed air freight services to LATAM, Asia and Europe through daily schedules of cargo passenger flights from the Miami gateway.
With this competitive local advantage comes specialized expertise and knowledge of free trade agreements in the Latin America market. Agreements such as NAFTA (North American Trade Agreement between the governments of Canada, Mexico and the US) and CAFTA (Central American Free Trade Agreement) aim to eliminate non-tariff trade barriers in the commercial exchanges between countries.
Because each member of the Miami gateway team is an AIT employee, there is also a vested interest in every shipment they are entrusted to handle. As such, the entire AIT community benefits from lower transportation and service costs, less documentation and routing errors and most importantly, increased confidence and control of all cargo.
The gateway has steadily been growing its list of supporters and advocates from across the AIT organization.
The station’s business objective for 2011 is to increase gateway activity among the stations throughout the AIT community while working on business opportunities in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Costa Rica.
