11-01-04 Statement From 2002 Olympic Gold Medalist Jim Shea Jr. About Not Competing On the World Cup This Season
Lake Placid, N.Y. – The United States Skeleton World Cup team was officially announced yesterday morning with 2002 Olympic Gold Medalist Jim Shea Jr. (Lake Placid, NY) earning a coveted spot on the team. In a release to the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, Jim explained turning down his World Cup spot and his intention to participate in the America’s Cup races.
At this time Jim needs to revisit the blood flow problems in his left leg, which became an issue during the recent national team trials. The swelling from his previous injury has and is causing Jim restricted movement in his left leg. If an operation becomes an issue to resolve the problem Jim would prefer to have it done this season to allow him to defend his gold medal at the next Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, in 2006.
